Sometimes when customers first come into our store, a question that arises is:
"Do you price match"
A fair question.
Many people look at the prices from big box retailers and then compare said price with our prices and immediately notice a difference, what is not easily seen is what you get for the advertised price at big box retailers.
The truth is, we’re not trying to compete on being the cheapest option. We are focused on being the best value and there’s a critical difference between the two.
And that’s where the real difference starts.
This article breaks down exactly what you’re paying for at TracksVR, and why it ultimately leads to a better experience, better performance, and fewer headaches after the checkout is done.
Duties
One of the biggest surprises that our customers and even ourselves encounter when purchasing F1 merchandise or Sim Equipment is Canadian import duties.
Most SIM hardware and F1 Merch isn’t manufactured in Canada. It typically comes from the U.S., Europe, or Asia. That means that when you order from an international retailer, your purchase isn’t as simple as one transaction, it becomes an import.
Canadian customs duties & import tax come with additional costs that are not communicated at checkout.
Depending on the product and its country of origin, you may be charged:
- Import duties based on classification codes
- GST (and sometimes additional provincial taxes depending on the carrier and processing method)
- Brokerage fees from the shipping company
- Handling fees that vary depending on how the item is cleared through customs
What typically happens is, you place your order thinking you’ve found a better deal, the product ships, and then a few days later you get a notification from the courier asking for an additional payment before delivery can be completed.
At that point, you don’t really have a choice other than to pay the duties.
Transparent Pricing
When you buy from a typical retailer, the information you’re relying on is usually secondhand. Product descriptions come from manufacturers. Product specs are standardized and reviews are often inconsistent, fake or based on limited use.
That’s not necessarily wrong.
In simulation setups, especially as you move beyond entry-level gear, the details start to matter more. Not just what a product is, but how it behaves in a full turnkey system.
At TracksVR we spend a significant amount of time working directly with the equipment we sell. That changes the type of guidance we can provide.
Instead of repeating specs, we can answer questions like:
- What actually improves your experience at different budget levels
- Where spending more makes a difference, and where it doesn’t
- What hardware combinations create the best balance
- What to avoid if you want to reduce or are thinking future upgrades
That kind of input isn’t something you get from a product page. It comes us having hands on experience working with different equipment and seeing how setups & products evolve over time.
The price you see is the price you pay.
Why the Full System Matters More Than Individual Parts
A common pattern we see with customers is that many are trying to optimize each component individually, finding the cheapest wheel here, the best deal on pedals there, and so on.
On paper, that approach makes sense.
In practice, it often leads to mismatched systems that are not optimized to work together.
Simulation performance isn’t just about having good individual components. It’s about how those components interact with each other. A highly overpowered wheelbase paired with entry-level pedals mounted on an unstable rig, creates an imbalances that will limit the overall experience.
This is where many “cheaper” builds become more expensive over time. Not because the parts are bad, but because they weren’t selected as a cohesive system.
At TracksVR, we want to help prevent that from happening to you.
We don’t just sell individual items, at TracksVR we help align your setup so that everything works together properly from the start. That reduces friction, improves performance, and avoids unnecessary upgrades later.
Our Support Doesn’t End at Checkout
Another area where the difference becomes clear is after you purchase with us.
With large retailers, support is typically transactional. Once the order is complete, any issues are handled through general customer service channels, which are often very limited in their technical depth.
At TracksVR, we stay involved even after the checkout process is finished.
If something doesn’t behave as expected, if you’re tuning your setup and need some help, or if you’re planning to expand your rig later, we are available to help guide that process. Not because it’s an add-on service, but because it’s a part of how we operate.
This becomes more valuable over time, especially as your setup becomes more complex.
Built on Real World Experience
Having been running a dedicated, professional simulator venue for 8 years and counting, gives us a perspective that’s hard to replicate in a standard retail model.
We see how different users interact with the same equipment. We see what holds up under constant use. We see what fails, what needs adjustment, how to adjust it, and what consistently performs well.
That feedback loop directly influences what we sell and how we recommend it.
It also means we’re not relying on assumptions or marketing claims. What we recommend is based on our experiences using the equipment and seeing how it performs in our venue.
At TracksVR, at time of writing, we have built 600+ simulators, we have a dedicated professional simulator venue and build shop, rest assured when we recommend something, you can rest easy knowing that we know what we are talking about.
The Trade-Off
At the end of the day, the price difference comes down to a trade-off.
You can buy equipment for the lowest upfront cost, or you can purchase and optimize your equipment for a setup that works properly, lasts longer, and doesn’t require constant adjustment or replacement.
We focus on the latter.
That doesn’t mean every product we sell is the most expensive option available. It means that whatever we do sell is selected with the full custom build in mind, performance, reliability, compatibility, and long-term usability.
Every product or experience we offer at TracksVR we strive to deliver our professionalism into every recommendation and service we do.
Final Thoughts
If you’re comparing prices alone, we may not always be the lowest option.
But if you’re looking at the complete experience, the piece of mind of knowing that you are getting the best products for your money, you care how your simulator performs, and the level of support behind your investment, at TracksVR.
Our goal isn’t to win on price.
Our goal is to make sure that whenever you are getting into the sim racing world, you don't have to worry about a thing, we want to make sure that whatever you get works the way that you want it to.
See you soon.
